About Dr. Ledford

Hello and welcome to my blog. I am the author of “Parables for a Wounded Heart: Overcoming the Wounds to Your Self-Esteem and Transforming Your Perception of You.” I am also the author of a group treatment program entitled, “Finding Me: Healing Self-Esteem Wounds Created by Childhood Abuse and Trauma.” I also published a webinar on Udemy called, “Reclaiming Your Positive Self-Esteem.”

I am a psychologist in private practice in North Carolina, and for over thirty years, I have provided psychotherapy for adults, adolescents and children. I have seen so many people who are hurting because they hold false, negative beliefs about themselves; beliefs that were triggered by past, hurtful experiences. As I sought to help my clients identify, confront and eliminate those negative self-beliefs, I developed many tools. I want to share these tools with my readers. I also want to provide a place where my readers can share ideas and helpful tools with each other. I’m excited about this avenue for an internet community of people who are passionate about helping people heal their self-esteem wounds or simply want to feel better about themselves.

I have been in private practice for over thirty-four years in Western North Carolina. Prior to that, I served as Director of Adult Services at Rutherford/Polk Mental Health Center and taught psychology at Alfred University in New York. After receiving my doctorate from the University of Georgia, I completed post-doctoral training in Strategic Family Therapy and Cognitive/Behavioral Therapy. My psychotherapy techniques have been heavily shaped by that training. Through the years, I developed a treatment approach that incorporates the emotional connection of the therapeutic story with the logical appeal of cognitive therapy. This blending of techniques helps my clients by appealing to the rational mind and the emotional mind (i.e. the head and the heart).

On a personal note, I have been married to the same wonderful woman for 42 years. We have three adult children and six grandchildren, and live in the mountains of Western North Carolina. In addition to playing with the grandchildren, I enjoy playing the guitar, hammered dulcimer and native american flute. I also enjoy scuba diving. We have attended Florence Baptist Church for the past 34 years, where I serve as a Sunday School teacher and a deacon.
